Thanks, Bruce.
I appreciate the information.
I checked out the site and they are selling 12.5.2. I need 12.5.1 as the whole purpose of getting the license is to continue using it for general PB development INCLUDING web applications. And as I understand it, SAP, in their (RANT ALERT) infinite wisdom (they didn't consult with me) removed web applications from 12.5.2.
That said, I have the software for 12.5.1. So I don't need their software, just the license. And that being said, in the past when I have purchased a license in the past it is simply added to SubscribeNet and I can simply recreate the 'Served' license using the total number of licenses that I have for my instance of SySam.
So what happens when you purchase PowerBuilder from TechXtend? Do they send you a license key immediately when you buy the product? If so, can I then upload that license key or otherwise transfer it to SubscribeNet so I can recreate my 'Served' license?
Bruce, I really want to thank you for helping me with this. I can't tell you how frustrating it is that SAP cannot even have a page in their SAP Store that refers you to where you can purchase the product.
A very nice person gave me the name and phone number of an SAP employee who he thought could help me. I called that person and was asked if I was already a client (apparently if you are not, you cannot purchase licenses direct from SAP). I said that I was already a client and that I had a couple of licenses (actually I have been a client in various forms since 1993 when I founded Prosoft, Inc. and bought a bunch of licenses, ASE and EAServer). My new SAP contact said great, he would talk to Sue Dunnell and would be back to me soon. Well soon, I got an email from the SAP contact telling me...
"Hi Paul,
I can’t sell you the license directly.
You can purchase the license through TechXtend (Programmer’s
Paradise)."
Frankly, I am annoyed that apparently me and my $3,000.00 does not pass Sue Dunnell's test for who can simply get an license added to their subscribenet account.
As a former employee of Cullinet who watch many of his compatriots joinn SAP, I continue to be amazed at the stupidity of SAP with respect to dealing with its current customer base, I am humbled by the amazing people that make this forum work. At the risk of insulting anyone, I would like to thank:
Bruce Armstrong
Chris Pollach
Roland Smith
Arnd Schmidt
Ivaylo Ivanov
And many others...
And while I am at it, where are the other 13,000 posts from the old PowerBuilder NewsGroup? I just searched this forum for 'IVAYLO' and nothing comes up. That tells me that someone brilliant person at SAP decided that we did not need those 13,000 posts. Posts that contained fabulous questions and fabulous insight on the part of countless PowerBuilder users. Where is that information other than floating around on Google? Why is not part of this forum so we have one place to search? Was it too difficult for SAP employees to import 13,000 threads into this forums so everyone can just continue asking the same questions over and over again?
The loss of this information on the part of SAP is a travesty.
